Dear Helen Keller:
It is a great pleasure to welcome you home and at the same time send you greetings on your 75th birthday.
From all sides I have been hearing of the wonderful job you have done on your goodwill tour, and I have felt proud that you were representing our country. All of us when we go abroad are ambassadors in our own right but I think your unselfishness and deep devotion to the cause of humanity everywhere has a very special appeal. There can be no doubt that you left a spark of your spirit everywhere you went and that your efforts will produce good results for many years to come.
I feel sure that notes of praise and gratitude are pouring in to you but I think your greatest reward must lie in your own knowledge that you have left no stone unturned in trying to share your own inner happiness with all mankind.
My affectionate greetings, and congratulations on a job well done. I hope you have a lovely birthday and that we will have the benefit of your inspiration for many years to come.
