Investing in Today’s Scholars to Transform Tomorrow’s World

AFB is excited to launch our AFB Scholars Program! Through the generosity of the Lulu J. Alonso Scholarship Fund, this program invests in blind students, supporting and empowering them to serve as change agents in creating a more equal and inclusive world.

Eligibility & Requirements

Available Scholarships

The Lulu J. Alonso Scholarship Fund supports three scholarship tiers to support postsecondary education for blind students; renewable annually.

  • Community College - $8,000
  • Undergraduate - $20,000
  • Graduate - $28,000

Scholar Expectations

AFB’s goal is to cultivate future blind leaders. During the academic year, AFB Scholars will be required to:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
  • Participate in mentorship activities with AFB Leaders
  • Participate in One Approved Annual Conference with Staff

  • Application Window: February 10 - March 21, 2025
  • Notification of Shortlist: March 31 - April 9, 2025
  • Interviews: April 10 - 25, 2025
  • Final Award Announcements: May 5 - 16, 2025
