Dear Mrs. Roosevelt,

Your telegram on my birthday sent a glow to my heart, and I should have thanked you long ago, but I have had an experience that you know well. A torrent of work resulting from my world tour has swept me along, and I do not yet see any signs of terra firma. However, I am proud that Polly and I were able to encircle the globe in the cause of the blind and the deaf, and that thought and your loving message and other wonderful remembrances made my natal day a beautiful memory that I shall cherish forever.
