Dear Friend,
As we approach the horizon of the new year, I invite you to join me in being a part of something truly transformative. Let’s imagine a world of endless possibilities for millions of Americans who are blind or have low vision.
From conducting research to identifying pressing needs in the sector to creating a more accessible and inclusive world, the American Foundation for the Blind has been a driving force for the full and equal inclusion for those who are blind or have low vision.
That’s why I’m writing to you today. Will you stand alongside me, and all of us at the American Foundation for the Blind, in making a gift to ensure those who are blind or have low vision are fully equipped to succeed in work and life?
I took on the role of president and CEO of the American Foundation for the Blind because I believe in the power of change. For over a century we have been a driving force, turning the dream of full and equal inclusion into reality.
Together, we can ensure those who are blind or have low vision gain the full and equal promise of the opportunity that is at the core of our nation’s values.
Thanks to your support, we are implementing leading research, advocacy, and programs designed to expand opportunities for those who are blind or have low vision. In the words of one of our recent program participants:
“I achieved goals I didn’t know I had. I never thought I would be able to know what I wanted to do. I’m going back to school in August to finish up my bachelor’s. I stopped when I lost my vision, but the American Foundation for the Blind gave me the confidence to go back and finish my work.”
The year ahead marks the 100th anniversary of Helen Keller’s arrival at the American Foundation for the Blind. Among all of her quotes, this says it best: “Tomorrow! What possibilities there are in that word.” Helen’s dreams, hopes, and vision have guided, and will continue to guide, our work together.
Helen didn’t do it alone, and neither can we. It takes the strength of all of us—donors like you and me—to move the mountains of change and witness transformation.
In the spirit of Helen’s words, I am grateful for the possibilities that lie ahead. Just as it was a century ago, our own dreams of full and equal inclusion are realized only when each of us seeks to make a difference.
Sincerely,Eric Bridges
