Copyright Policies
Authors' Rights
When an article is accepted for publication in JVIB, the author transfers to AFB the exclusive rights comprised in the copyright of the work, as stated in JVIB's Copyright Transfer Agreement that is signed by all JVIB authors, including but not limited to the right to publish the work and the material contained therein throughout the world, in all languages, and in all media of expression now known or later developed, and to license or permit others to do so. Despite the transfer of copyright, JVIB authors retain certain rights to their work.
Distribution
The author retains the right to make photocopies of the work for internal distribution within the institution that employs the author. Authors need to include the following notice of copyright whenever photocopies are made of the work:
Reproduced with permission of AFB Press, American Foundation for the Blind, from (the author), Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, (volume), (p. or pp.), copyright © (date) by AFB Press. All rights reserved.

Publications and Other Uses in Print
Authors retain the right to use, after publication, all or part of the work in a book by the author, or a collection of the author's work. In addition, authors retain the right to use figures and tables from the work, and up to 250 words of text, for any purposes. In both cases, the following statement of copyright needs to be included:

Presentations
Authors retain the right to make oral presentations of material from the work.
Digital Repositories
Although authors are not permitted to distribute electronically or publish online the final, published version of their article, authors are permitted post or distribute three earlier versions of their manuscript: (1) the submitted version, (2) the peer reviewed version, or (3) the accepted version. Only these three categories of manuscripts may be posted on the author's own or their institution's website.
Public Repositories
JVIB authors whose work was funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are required by NIH to submit the final peer-reviewed manuscript to the digital archive PubMed Central within six months of publication, according to the NIH Public Access Policy. JVIB assumes the responsibility of submission, and will submit the final, accepted PDF version of the authors' work to the NIH repository.
