WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 15, 2024) — The American foundation for the Blind (AFB) is pleased to announce Pam McGonigle will join AFB as its new Chief Development Officer starting Sept. 16th, 2024. In her new role, Ms. McGonigle will oversee all of AFB’s resource development with a focus on bolstering philanthropic support and advancing the organization’s financial stability.

Ms. McGonigle brings over 20 years’ experience in development and achievements in the nonprofit sector, most recently as Director of Development & Communications at Overbrook School for the Blind. Prior to her role at Overbook, she lead fundraising for the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes (USABA). She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Blind Sports Organization and is a Graduate Council Member for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.

“A four-time Paralympian in track and field, Pam has demonstrated on a global stage the highest caliber of teamwork and leadership, qualities that will play a significant role as AFB expands its impact and reach in our second century of work,” said AFB President & CEO Eric Bridges.

Ms. McGonigle participated in four Paralympic Games starting with the 1992 Games in Barcelona, where she earned a gold medal in the 3000m and two bronze medals in the 800m and 1500m events. She also competed in the Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 Paralympic Games. She is a lifetime member of the United States Association of Blind Athletes and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013.

Ms. McGonigle holds a Master’s degree in Sport Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. She currently resides in Ardmore, PA with her husband John, son J.T., and her two retired and current guide dogs.
