WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 29, 2022)—Kirk Adams, President and CEO of the American Foundation of the Blind (“AFB”) has given notice to the organization that he is resigning his position and that his last day will be June 30, 2022. During his six years with AFB, Dr. Adams led AFB through a period of transition as the organization prioritized changing the employment landscape for people who are either blind or visually impaired. Under Dr. Adams’ leadership, AFB moved its headquarters from NYC to Arlington, VA and embraced a virtual business model.
During Dr. Adams’ tenure, AFB created exciting new employment related initiatives, including the Blind Leaders Development Program. One of the highlights of Dr. Adams’ tenure was the receipt of a transformational $2,000,000 gift with an additional $1,000,000 challenge from business leader and philanthropist Gordon Gund.
Dr. Adams has advised us that he will be seeking new opportunities to advance diversity, equity and inclusion for people who are blind or visually impaired. The Board extends its thanks for his service to AFB, and wishes him well in his future endeavors.
