WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 20, 2020)—The American Foundation for the Blind mourns the passing of Representative John Lewis, the long-serving Georgia congressman who lived his life fighting for civil rights and a more equitable society.
Rep. Lewis committed his life to the struggle for justice and equality for all people. He was one of the great civil right icons and led a life of service for the betterment of all mankind. In 2001, AFB presented Lewis with the Helen Keller Achievement Award, for his full-hearted support of the AFB National Literacy Center in Atlanta.
On behalf of the entire AFB community, we extend our sincerest condolences to the family of Congressman Lewis.
