Since 1986, AFB's flagship conference was known as the Josephine L. Taylor Leadership Institute, named after the beloved educator and advocate for children with vision loss and with multiple disabilities. Ms. Taylor was an early champion, as well, for teacher training programs for instructors of the visually impaired. AFB is indebted to Ms. Taylor for her contributions to the field, and we continue to honor her legacy with our national education and advocacy work.

Now titled the AFB Leadership Conference (AFBLC), this event reflects AFB's 100 plus-year role in bringing together leaders in the blindness field, both seasoned and new, to share their knowledge and expertise to improve the quality of programs and services for blind or low vision children and adults. We support a wide variety of fields and topics, including research, technology, education, corporations, health, and government organizations.

AFBLC offers substantial opportunities to network with professionals and experts from across the nation. You can also engage in dynamic sessions featuring exciting and innovative content on a wide range of topics and participate in interactive workshops, discussing in an open and group forum the trending topics in the blind and low vision field. Additionally, take time to explore the city in which the conference will be hosted. Check out our previous AFBLC events here!

This year, the AFB Leadership Conference's theme will be Leading Together: Leveraging Change to Advance Our Vision. It will be held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel, from November 12 - 14, 2025 in Crystal City, VA.
