Earlier this week, we announced the launch of our new website (and if you're currently reading this blog post, perhaps you've noticed already).
A lot of planning and work went into this project, and we wanted to take this opportunity to thank the many people who gave us feedback along the way. People who were losing their vision, or had been blind for years, along with family members, professionals, and members of the general public—all participated in the early card-sorting exercises that helped us organize information in a user-friendly way. Once we had an early prototype of the new design, another group of participants took part in the accessibility and usability testing that helped us spot potential problem areas and fix them. A third round of testing helped us confirm that we were on the right track and make some final adjustments! Thank you so much to everyone who volunteered their time, feedback, and incredibly valuable insights. We couldn't have built this new site without you.
That said, here are some of the features we are excited about:
- Flyout menus that are fully keyboard accessible
- An accessible slideshow feature that makes it easier to highlight resources for the wide variety of audiences AFB serves, as well as breaking news
- Dynamic landing pages, for important programs such as the Center on Vision Loss and AFB Press, that can showcase headlines, events, announcements, and even job listings
- The new "Get Involved" area that offers volunteer opportunities, ways to take action on legislative campaigns, and more
We want to hear from you—what do you think? Let us know in the comments!
