Kirk Adams is president and CEO of the American Foundation for the Blind.
We are delighted to join our friends and colleagues in celebrating the sixth Global Accessibility Awareness Day, a day designed to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities.
At the American Foundation for the Blind, we are committed to removing barriers, creating solutions, and expanding possibilities for people with visual impairments so they can achieve their full potential.
Challenging the limits of technology is a vital part of our work, and AFB Consulting is central to this ongoing effort. Since its founding over 95 years ago, AFB has led the effort to address technological barriers and pioneer accessible and inclusive solutions for people with vision loss. AFB Consulting has successfully guided companies and their developers in creating technology solutions, such as websites, apps, and products that are truly digitally inclusive.
In keeping with AFB’s overall mission, the team of experts at AFB Consulting is bringing digital inclusion resources to even more companies. We believe there’s an opportunity to further improve accessibility across a wide range of industries through our leadership in digital inclusion. In this way, we’re helping companies identify the most common barriers to accessibility and develop solutions to proactively address them.
In many ways, it’s an extension of the work AFB Consulting is already doing for our clients, such as evaluating and improving digital assets, and providing training to help companies better understand the needs of people with vision loss as they develop new technologies.
Digital inclusion is more than a requirement. It’s the hallmark of a business dedicated to its customers. As we work to create a world with no limits for people with vision loss, AFB Consulting will also create new opportunities for the companies that serve them.
Whether these companies are integrating accessibility into existing products, designing new software, or seeking to train and diversify their workforce, AFB will be here to help the innovative organizations that are committed to making technology universally accessible and usable.
