Sonya joined the American Foundation for the Blind in 1993 and serves as AFB’s Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Sonya aligns people, strategy, and talent systems to achieve AFB’s mission.
Throughout her 30+ years at AFB, Sonya has worked extensively in the management of AFB’s executive office and worked closely with the AFB Board of Trustees across virtually every aspect of the organization. She has spearheaded strategic planning and board development, in addition to previously overseeing AFB’s human capital, including AFB’s transition to a virtual workforce.
A graduate of Katharine Gibbs School, Sonya also earned her bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in Leadership Studies from Villanova University. She has further earned a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from the HR Certification Institute and a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification from the Society for Human Resource Management.
